So who is she?

I am Satu Lankinen, a musician and music pedagogue currently living in Helsinki. I play many kinds of musics and I do everything ranging from theatre projects to bar gigs. Folk music is especially close to my heart. After immersing myself in folk music the myriad possibilities of music opened up to me, the freedom and the creativity. I play in many groups and I make music also by myself. As a solo artist I create minimalistic but many -layered soundscapes with singing, accordion and percussions. My other instruments are bowed lyre, kantele and folk style wind instruments.

For me a center striving in art is to bring to light something subconscious and not realized both in myself and the audience. Music stems from subconscious, the things moving inside me combined with things that interest and inspire me musically. It has always been important for me to find a unique voice, without caring for outside expectations. I want to create strong moods and imageries. I feel I have succeeded when music touches me and the audience.

Presence, listening, courage and interaction are the cornerstones of my performances. It is fascinating for me to challenge myself and find out just how broad an area I can move in. How crazy and how sensitive, and still be myself.

My folk music studies started in Kaustinen where I studied for a year (2003-2004) before getting into professional studies. I have graduated as a musician from Central Ostrobothnian Conservatory of Music (2008), as a music pedagogue from Centria University of Applied Sciences (2014) and as a Master of Music from Folk Music Department of the Sibelius Academy (2019). Currently I am preparing slowly but steadily my first solo album.
