Me, me, me!

The compositions of my solo project base definitely in Finnish, Carelian and Ingrian old music traditions. I create personal sounding multi-layered soundscapes with accordion, singing and percussions. I have incorporated also videos and images into my concert experience. Images and music create a whole, with a theme of constant change and the idea of art as means to bring to light the unconscious in us.

I create music mainly by means of improvisation. Improvisation as its best is a gateway to unconscious. If you can switch your self-critique off you can find things and levels you otherwise would not find. My compositions and arrangements stem heavily from the esthetic of archaic music. There is something very intriguing in archaic soundscapes and the archaic way of making music. Often it demands halting and listening from the listener but also in some ways guides the listeners towards listening and halting. The un-structured music, repeating and subtle variating makes the music both stable and unmoving and flowing forward at the same time.

You can also find me performing on prehistoric and medieval happenings. I guide the listeners to the bygone world with a repertoire consisting of old kantele- and bowed lyre melodies, shepherds´ music, poetry songs and ballads.
